In 2011 we started a private Development League, based in St. Catharines Ont, that is in direct alignment with our player development philosophy. The League is centered on the translate-able skill set principles and measure-able training to game transfer. Essentially, our players are involved in a season long progressive development and performance plan. The skills are taught in proper development order and players are expected to immediately transfer what they are learning in training directly in the games. The structure has weekly transfer goals and the games are measured not for goals, or points or plus/minus, rather the recognition of conditions in a game when the skill set they learned during the week can be applied and correctly applying that skill set. The frequency in which the player can either recognize a game situation they can use the skill set, or better, learning how to manipulate the game to arrange the conditions for which the player can apply the skill set. The ultimate goal for any player is the ability to dictate the outcome of the game and learning how to manipulate conditions and correctly recognize opportunities to utilize specific skill sets is a next level opportunity that would be exclusive to the players inside the Development League.
